Healthy, Happy Holidays

Happy labor day everybody!

For many, the holidays are synonymous with unhealthy eating.  Today, for example, many are firing up their grills with burgers, chicken, ribs, and brats with all of the trimmings.  Don’t even get me started on the desserts!  Although all of that is tempting, you don’t have to abandon your healthy eating lifestyle change all because of a holiday.

Here are a few tips to help you survive the holidays:

  1. Don’t arrive hungry.  When you’re hungry, you tend to eat anything that’s available, even when you know it’s not healthy.  Have a healthy meal before you arrive to the shindig.
  2. Eat smaller portions.  When you’re in a place with few healthy options, don’t skip a meal.  Simply eat smaller portions.  A small portion of something not so healthy is better than skipping a meal altogether.
  3. Watch what you drink.  Drinks have calories too.  Alcoholic beverages and sodas are high in calories.  Opt for water instead.
  4. Move!  You may not be able to get in a full workout but, wherever you are, be active.  Whether it’s a short walk or  2-stepping on the dance floor, keep moving!

The holidays don’t have to give you the blues!  Be healthy, be happy, and live your best life ever!
